Emir, The Romani Boy

Emir is a romani kid living in Istanbul. He loves spider-man. He had a spider-man shirt when I took that picture. Emir is a labour child. All day working in streets, collecting bottles and papers and sell them at the end of the day. He is unfortunately important part of recycling in Istanbul. Emir and Emirs. His name means ”An order”. Perhaps his parents were scared of the possibility that he could be uncontrolable.. Emir has a big dream. Buying a Playstation 2. I know, Playstation 2 is a very old device. But it’s his dream. Emir was 9 years old when I took that picture. It was 3 years ago. Emir wasn’t a student. Most of us ignore Emir. We ignore him while we see him on street, carrying tens of kilos of garbage car, sweaty in summer, trying to collect money to buy hisself a bread. Because he is not one of us.
